Jahvid Best Injury sends running back to hospital (Video)

California running back Jahvid Best was injured in Saturday's game. The Jahvid Best injury occurred when Best was attempting to score a touchdown near the left side of the field and he tried to make it into the end zone. Best was undercut by the defender and at a height of around five feet in the air came down on the back of his head. Best scored the touchdown, but it was immediately obvious to everyone in the stadium that something was wrong on the field.

Early reports state that Jahvid Best has sustained a concussion after being removed from the field, and the best of all was that he has movement in all of his extremities. More tests are going to be done on Jahvid Best before he is released from the hospital, and doctors are going to make 100% sure that there isn't a greater extent to the injury he had on the field. The injury had been so bad that Best's helmet even came off in the collision, and just by looking at the photograph to the left you can see how high in the air Best was before he came down hard. There is also a video linked at the bottom (not the best of quality) that shows what happened to cause the injury.

While Best was on the ground after being hurt they removed his jersey and put him on an oxygen mask before removing him. Best was then taken to an emergency room right away for tests, and all necessary precautions were taken to prevent further injury. For a little background, Jahvid Best was already playing with the remnants of a slight concussion he suffered in a game last week against the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Jahvid Best came into the game against Oregon State with 838 total rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. Last season Best rushed for 1,580 total yards to go along with 15 rushing touchdowns on the season. He is widely considered one of the best running backs in football, and easily takes the title as the best running back in the Pac-10. We all hope that Best has a speedy recovery, and that there are no lasting effects from this injury to his head and neck.

The injury definitely seemed to affect how California approached the remainder of the game, and they came up short to Oregon State 31-17. That drops the 20th ranked Bears to 6-3 overall, and could harm their chances at a great bowl game.

Iowa Vs. Northwestern (Video from 1945!)

Iowa vs. Northwestern didn't end like Iowa fans wanted. The Iowa vs. Northwestern game was supposed to be a stepping stone for the Iowa Hawkeyes to push their record to 10-0, but the Northwestern Wildcats had different ideas when they came to Iowa City. The biggest problem for the University of Iowa were all of the injuries that had continued to mount, and which just got even worse on Saturday when their starting quarterback went down with an injury. Not only did he get hurt, but he fumbled in the end zone on the play, giving Northwestern an early touchdown that Iowa would not be able to overcome on the day.

The Iowa vs. Northwestern game was very important for both teams, but for entirely different reasons. Iowa came into the game with a 9-0 overall record and a #4 ranking in the BCS standings. It meant that Iowa still had an outside chance of making the BCS championship game of college football on the year, and could possibly end the regular season with a 12-0 overall record. It was going to be a tough road ahead for Iowa even if they could beat Northwestern, because next week the Hawkeyes have to go to Ohio State and take on the Buckeyes in a big game for OSU.

Northwestern really needed the win on Saturday, because they wanted to push their record into bowl eligibility for the season. Being a team in the Big Ten with an eligible record is basically like stating that the team will get a bowl game, and everyone at Northwestern knew that when they came into Iowa City this weekend. It meant that both teams had a lot to play for on Saturday afternoon, and on paper it sure seemed like Iowa could come on top pretty easily. That's why they play the games though, because Iowa was already shorthanded at running back, and when the starting quarterback went down, it means that Iowa would have to end the game with a back-up calling all the plays.

LSU Vs Alabama (football game videos)

The #3 Alabama Crimson Tide face off against the #9 LSU Tigers and nothing less than a chance to play for the national title may be on the line. Although it isn't guaranteed that a Southeast Conference football team will play in the
Nnational championship, there is a very good chance that that could very well happen. And when the two suffocating defenses of Alabama and LSU meet in Tuscaloosa Saturday, expect a hardfought game, probably low-scoring, and which could possibly be decided by the football team that makes a crucial turnover and gives their opponent just enough of an advantage. The model of Saturday's game was most likely the football game played earlier this season between Florida and LSU, where the #1 Gators walked away with the victory, 13-3. Alabama will hope to emulate that feat.

Going into the game, if there is an advantage statistically, it is that Alabama is ranked 33rd in the nation in total offense while LSU is ranked at #100. Alabama has the 13th ranked rushing offense in the nation, whereas LSU sits at No. 69. That discrepancy could cost LSU the football game, if games were played out by statistical probability. But they are not and the Tigers know it.

The story will be in the defenses. Going up against Alabama's 13th ranked rushing offense is the No. 4 ranked Red Zone defense in the country. On the other side of possession, LSU's offense is facing the 10th ranked Red Zone defense and the 4th ranked defense in total defense. LSU's defense is ranked a respectable 15th nationally.

Don't expect much in the way of passing except to throw the other team off a bit. Alabama is ranked 93rd, LSU 96th in passing offense. Both teams have intercepted their opponents 11 times this season. And Alabama has sacked their opponents' quarterbacks 23 times going into the game. LSU has gotten to their opponents' quarterbacks 11 times. Both teams' defenses have recoverd 5 fumbles.

Droid Phone Reviews (Videos)

The Motorola DROID for Verizon Wireless is the very first Android 2.0 "Eclair" device to be launched, and is only Motorola's second Android phone ever (its well-received CLIQ for T-Mobile goes on sale today). The DROID features a huge, high-resolution touchscreen display, a 5 megapixel camera, and a full QWERTY keyboard. Good specs all around, and an impressive first Android effort for Verizon. I spend some time with the DROID to see if it is everything its amusing advertising campaign claims it is.

Physical Aspects

The Motorola DROID is a large and heavy device, make no mistake. It weighs 170.6g (6.0oz) and measures up at 116mm x 60mm x 15mm (4.6in x 2.4in x .6in) in size. Even for a larger person, that is a pretty big and hefty device to use easily with one hand. On the flip side, however, we have the fact that the phone is very ruggedly put together. It feels solid and durable. The 3.7-inch display dominates the front, and its capacitive touchscreen(INFO) surface extends to the controls that sit beneath it, which are entirely touch sensitive. The touch sensitive keys work well, but I unintentionally activated the back key innumerable times while opening the device up to get at the keyboard.

When the keyboard's unsprung slider mechanism is utilized, the 854 x 480 pixel display adjusts to a landscape orientation. The keyboard offers 4 rows of fairly stiff keys with a good layout, but not the best feel. I have gotten used to it, more so than I had initially expected, but I still love neither the keyboard nor the narrow d-pad controller that sits to its right. Considering that the DROID's purposeless chin is on the right side when in landscape mode, it seems to me that it would have made far more ergonomic sense if Motorola had put the d-pad to the left of the keyboard, to keep the user's right thumb from having to reach so far.

Another ergonomic issue for me is the location of the power/standby key on the top edge of the phone, and the fact that activating the device requires a finger swipe on the touchscreen. Yes, it looks cool, but no, it doesn't allow you to get to the homescreen quickly. Most Android devices have hardware controls and allow the phone to be activated by pressing the menu key twice. With touch sensitive keys, that's simply not an option, thus the hoops the user must jump through to use the DROID.

Next to the power switch is a nice uncovered 3.5mm headphone jack. The uncovered micro-USB port is on the left edge, while the volume rocker and gold colored camera shutter are on the right. The chin sits at the bottom of the phone, where the microphone is found. The rear of the DROID is covered in a soft-touch paint that offers a nice grip, and the gold grille at the bottom offers a nice contrast. The 5 megapixel camera and its dual-LED flash sit at the other end. A panel on the back of the DROID slides off with minimal effort to expose the battery and the microSDHC(INFO) memory card slot.

Overall I like the style of the design, as well as the build, but some of the controls prove to be inadequate due in part, at least, to the phone's sheer size. They might not have looked as nice, but hardware controls beneath the display would have done wonders for one-handed usability of the DROID, and putting the d-pad to the left of the keyboard would have made it better suited for smaller hands. But it's a good looking phone, and the touchscreen display that features to prominently on the phone is beautiful.

Fort hood victims list

The Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple reported out of the 10 Fort Hood shooting victims, six patients were currently in intensive care and four were in regular care. All patients had been stablized, he said during a news conference this morning.  Of the 30 people wounded in the attack, 28 are hospitalized and in stable condition.
“Some of these are extremely serious injuries,” Smythe said. “We would hope that all would survive, but it’s too early to say.”
The shooting Thursday at Ft. Hood resulted in the deaths of 13 people. All but two of the 30 injured remained hospitalized, according to military officials. The death toll from an Army psychiatrist who opened fire at the Fort Hood Army post rose to 13 on Friday, and Army officials said the suspected shooter was hospitalized and on a ventilator.

Suspected gunman Major Nidal Malik Hasan went on a shooting rampage at the Fort Hood Army post on Thursday, in one of the worst killing sprees ever reported on a U.S. military base, army officials said.
A woman died overnight from gunshot wounds, raising the toll to 13 dead and 30 wounded, said Colonel John Rossi, a deputy commanding general at Fort Hood, speaking with reporters. Of those killed, one was a civilian and 12 were soldiers, Rossi said.
The majority of patients at Scott & White had gunshot wounds to all areas of body: head, neck, chest, abdomen and extremities.
One soldier who had been shot and brought to the emergency room was “obviously quite distraught,” Smythe recalled. The soldier told him that “an individual jumped on a desk and started shooting weapons,” he said.
Within an hour of the shooting, patients started arriving at the hospital about 30 minutes north of base. The hospital mobilized its trauma team, including 20 surgeons, and many worked until late last evening, he said.
From the Associated Press here’s some initial list of the victim’s name: (we’ll update once we get the full list)

Matthew Cook, son-in-law of Jamie and Scotty Casteel. Cook is from New York State and has been home from Iraq for about a year. “He’s been shot in the abdomen and that’s all we know,” Jamie Casteel told The Associated Press.
Amber Bahr, 19, was shot in the stomach but was in stable condition, said her mother, Lisa Pfund of Random Lake, Wis.
Ashley Saucedo told WOOD-TV in Michigan that her husband was shot in the arm, but she couldn’t discuss specifics.

Francheska Velez
Velez, 21, of Chicago, was pregnant and preparing to return home. A friend of Velez’s, Sasha Ramos, described her as a fun-loving person who wrote poetry and loved dancing.
“She was like my sister,” Ramos, 21, said. “She was the most fun and happy person you could know. She never did anything wrong to anybody.”
Pfc. Aaron Thomas Nemelka
Nemelka, 19, of the Salt Lake City suburb of West Jordan, Utah, chose to join the Army instead of going on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his uncle Christopher Nemelka said.
“As a person, Aaron was as soft and kind and as gentle as they come, a sweetheart,” his uncle said. “What I loved about the kid was his independence of thought.”
Pfc. Michael Pearson
Pearson, 21, of the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook, Ill., quit what he figured was a dead-end furniture company job to join the military about a year ago.
Spc. Jason Dean Hunt
Hunt, 22, of Frederick, Okla., went into the military after graduating from Tipton High School in 2005 and had gotten married just two months ago, his mother, Gale Hunt, said. He had served 3 1/2 years in the Army, including a stint in Iraq.
Sgt. Amy Krueger
Krueger, 29, of Kiel, Wis., joined the Army after the 2001 terrorist attacks and had vowed to take on Osama bin Laden, her mother, Jeri Krueger said.
Amy Krueger arrived at Fort Hood on Tuesday and was scheduled to be sent to Afghanistan in December, the mother told the Herald Times Reporter of Manitowoc.
Fort Hood is home to about 50,000 troops, although Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison said only about 35,000 were on base at the time. The fort, established in 1942, stretches across 339 square miles (878 square km) in central Texas and is the state’s largest single employer.

Names of the victims wounded during the Fort Hood shooting.

Kimberly Munley, shot in hand and both legs.
Matthew Cook, 30, shot in abdomen.
Amber Bahr, 19, shot in the stomach.
Keara Bono, 21, shot in back.

United Commercial Bank 120th bank to fail this year in U.S.

The San Francisco-based United Commercial Bank reopen Saturday as branches of East West Bank after it was shut down by regulators Friday night and immediately sold to the Pasadena-based East-West Bancorp.
The California Department of Financial Institutions has approved overnight the purchase of the debt-laden bank which has 16 branches in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
East-West Bancorp entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC), which also included all 63 U.S. branches of United Commercial Bank, its branch in China's Hong Kong and the subsidiary of United Commercial Bank headquartered in Shanghai, China.
Depositors will automatically become depositors of East West Bank and continue to be insured by the FDIC.
The ill-fated bank was the 120th FDIC-insured institution to fail in the United States and the 14th in California this year, officials said.
"This is a transformational event for both institutions and represents an exciting growth opportunity for East West," Dominic Ng, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of East West, said in a statement.
Founded in 1973, East West Bank boasts a total of 137 branches in the United States. It will receive 10.4 billion U.S. dollars in assets, including 7.7 billion dollars in loans, and assume 9.2 billion dollars in liabilities, including 6.5 billion dollars in deposits of United Commercial Bank.
This has made East West Bank California's second largest bank and the nation's largest bank focused on serving the Asian American community. The transaction will help the bank to become profitable in 2010 and maintain future business development, Ng said.

20 20 Rihanna Interview (Video)

Rihanna was reflective and revealing throughout her "20/20" interview with Diane Sawyer on Friday night (November 6) as she spoke about her relationship with Chris Brown and explained that abuse was also a part of her upbringing, much like her former boyfriend's.

"I said to myself, 'I'm never gonna date someone like my dad,' " Rihanna told Sawyer. "Never."

The singer said her father was severely abusive to her mother in the past and hit her "numerous" times. She said she would unsuccessfully try to break up their fights, attempting to distract the pair by breaking glasses and dishes in the kitchen. The singer said her father even broke her mother's nose.

Rihanna painted the picture of her and Brown's early days together as filled with happiness. She said the "Forever" singer was her best friend but cautioned that falling in love with your best friend can be "scary."

"The more in love we became, the more dangerous we became for each other, equally as dangerous," she said, describing their relationship as an obsession.

She said on the night Brown assaulted her, she was happy and alcohol did not play a part in influencing his or her behavior.

Rihanna confirmed that a text message from a girl Brown had a previous relationship with was at the root of their argument that night. She said Brown lied about the message and that she would not let him off the hook. "He had his back against the wall," she said.

The pair left a pre-Grammy party and soon found themselves arguing in a residential district in Brown's rented Lamborghini.

"It escalated into him being violent toward me, and it was ugly," she said, clearing her throat.

Rihanna confirmed to Sawyer information previously detailed in the police report. She said Brown punched her and bit her repeatedly. She said she was also choked, but not to the point of near unconsciousness, although she said she did have trouble breathing.

"All I kept thinking was, 'When is it going to stop?' " she told Sawyer of the escalating violence.

She admitted Brown threatened to kill her, as well, but she told Sawyer he "was saying it to scare me."

"At that point, I just didn't know what could happen," she continued. "He was clearly blacked out. There was no person when I looked at him. It was almost as if he had nothing to lose. He had so much to lose. But it was almost as if he had nothing to lose. It wasn't the same person that says I loved you. It definitely wasn't those eyes."

"It was ugly," she said. "I fended him off with my feet...but it was not like, it was not like a fight with each other. I just...I really just wanted it to stop," she said.

Finally, Rihanna said, her screams prompted a to call the police.

"I was bleeding, I was swollen in the face," she said. "So there was no way of me getting home, except for, my next option was to get out of the car and walk. Start walking in a gown, in a bloody face. So I really don't know what my plan was."

Rihanna briefly reunited with Brown in Miami approximately a month following the assault. She said she wanted to protect Brown, as fans were turning against him. But Rihanna was conflicted even as she attempted to reassure Brown.

"Everything about him annoyed me," she said.

He asked her if Rihanna hated him, she recalled. She said she didn't, but she actually resented him. According to her, this was the point where she realized she had to end their relationship.

Developmental psychologist Dr. Michelle Callahan told MTV News it's important for victims to get to the point where they must recognize it's time to leave.

"It's important for young women to know this is not a sign of love," she urged. "Violence, controlling behavior and abusive behavior is not love."

Rihanna's decision to return to Brown confused many once evidence of the assault became public.

"Even if Chris never hit me again, who is to say that their boyfriend won't?" Rihanna said during the interview, calling her decision to reconcile with Brown "selfish." "Who's to say that they won't kill these girls? These are young girls, and I just didn't realize how much of an impact I had on these girls' lives until that happened. It was a wake-up call."

Sawyer asked Rihanna about the leaked image of her, battered and bruised, that appeared online after her assault. The singer said she doesn't like seeing the image because of the bad memories it conjures.

"I get angry all over again every time I see it," she said. "The whole thing plays out in my head, so I don't like to see it."

Brown has repeatedly emphasized that he still loves Rihanna and released a song after the incident called "Changed Man," in which he apologized to his ex.

Rihanna, however, claims to have never heard the record. She said she still has feelings for Brown and wants him to be successful, but she seems to be struggling to comprehend her emotions, calling it an annoyance to still feel connected to him. She told Sawyer she was unsure if she could ever reunite with him.

"I can't answer that question right now, 'cause you never know what the future holds," she explained. "He was my best friend, the person I loved. We spent two years of our lives together.

"I don't have a desire at all to be with him," she added. "I don't see how we could get back together. But I'm not God, so I can't predict the future."

She went on to add that there's nothing she wants to hear from Brown at the moment.

Brown issued a statement to MTV News prior to Rihanna's interview wishing her the best.

"I do appreciate her support and wish her the best," he said. "I am extremely sorry for what I did, and I accept accountability for my actions."

Rihanna, likewise, wished Brown the best and hoped he could work through his personal issues.

"I want him to accept this as a man would," she said. "Accept the responsibility and find a way to not feel sorry for himself."

Both artists seem poised to move past the dark moment in their lives.

"I'm glad it happed to me," Rihanna said. " 'Cause now I can help young girls. [I would tell them] 'Don't react off of love.' F love. Come out of the situation and look at it third-person and for what it really is. And then make your decision. 'Cause love is so blind. It's so blind."

Elizabeth Lambert (soccer fight) of New Mexico women’s soccer team’s unsportsmanlike conduct

In the NCAA women’s soccer west conference semi-final game, Elizabeth Lambert of New Mexico behaves unprofessionally towards opposing BYU team players.

Physical contact is part of almost every soccer game but Lambert seems to hurt every player that is near her.  She went beyond the line when she pulled one of BYU player’s hair and snapping the players head in the process.

Maybe Lambert is just frustrated that her team did not scored even a single goal.
BYU wins the game 0-1 and advances to the finals.

Here’s the video of Elizabeth Lambert’s unsportsmanlike conduct:

Smile :)
